Found this item on ebay.

Item number: 170860761078

Currently on going for $720 which raises questions for me, I thought that these were starting at thousands of dollars.

That said I don't know enough about the Dump to make an informed comment.
So, I ask here. What do you think?

Its probably genuine. The seller is pretty reputable. In very very bad condition though.

Sometimes it is easier to fake very worn coins, but I really think this one is genuine anyway. I can't say that I am all that excited about it, but if you are keen to acquire a bit of genuine early Australian history, perhaps it is OK.

If I were interested, I would take it to an experienced dealer who knows a lot about them. I would recommend Jim Noble, who collaborated on a book about Holey Dollars and dumps. I am an acquaintance of his, he sold a substantial part of a collection that I once had.

shows a "poor" one sold for $800 in April 2011

Also, that is only the current highest bid. Only the last bid counts. It could be $720 or $7200 at the end....

Genuine. I have brought many things from that seller (formely known as Watchco Numismatics). Honest people, making great money from people that don't know better.

So in everyone's opinion what is a fair price for this coin?
How often do these coins come up for sale?

Ok so current consensus is that it is real. Darn I don't have a spare couple of grand at present.

Right then, just have to and see what it goes for.

Thanks guys.

Well it sold for $1,701.00

Not a bad price at the end of the day.

There were a lot of bids in the last 2 minutes though.
