The lady at the drive through handed me change and I was excited to find a 1944 Wheat penny. My collection stops at 1943, so I guess this is the first one I am adding to the collection. Crazy I just found it in change.

That would be the first of your shell casing cents then.

So many Billions of the 1944 were made that they pop up in change a real lot. Some of us actually put them there for others to find.

I work at a drive through and I can assure you my customers don't get wheat cents back in change. I receive quite a few 'keepers'.

Crazy they are still in circulation, but very cool to see. I have a jar of coins that I need to look through now. I have a bunch of wheat pennies from 1909 through 1943, pretty much every year with various mints. I've been reading about them. I don't think I have any rare ones, but I love flipping through the collection.

If those are your collection, I'd be getting them out of there and not putting them back in. When you do take them out, don't pour them. Potential for more scratches.
