I have bad news. These coins have not arrived yet even after 42 days! Almost 6 weeks. I ordered them June 20th.
I also have a bad feeling about these coins. That is that I think the seller may not have sent them at all and is trying to scam me. Of course I could be wrong as there is no concrete proof. I have a feeling based on what he said and the last sale I received from him.
The first order I received from him back in February, he immediately marked them as delivered. He didn't do it this time around.
I emailed him July 12th and asked him when he mailed the coins out. He said July 3rd. Ok, so I waited again until Jul 24th and emailed him again. He said that he did not ship the coins because he was busy and traveling with his family. He told me that I would receive the coins. That's twice he said he shipped at different times and apparently did not?
The problem is that time is running out for the 45 day buyer protection from PayPal. And if I wait too much longer then this seller wouldn't be responsible for the coins anymore. Not to mention that my father is going to be really upset if I get ripped off since he paid for one of the coins for me.
I looked this seller up on Google. Apparently, he has ripped off other people before. One of them was that he sold a coin and found out it was more valuable. He didn't ship the coin and sold it to someone else for a couple grand. The buyer filed a complaint and also found out who the seller sold the coin to. The buyer managed to get his coin after a lot of trouble.
I guess not all dealers are honest on VCoins? Even though they are held to a code of ethics?
Either way, if I receive the coins or not. I'm not ever going to purchase from this seller again. Definitely sure about that.
I'm thinking about emailing the seller one more time about the coins. Telling him that time is running out, if I don't receive the coins by Thursday, I'm going to file a complaint with PayPal and let them handle it. Friday is the 45th day deadline.
Do you guys think I'm handling this correctly? I of course lost coins before but this time I have a feeling that I might be getting ripped off. Again, no proof of it for sure.
I would appreciate some advice before I take any type of action. I've never filed a complaint before. As much as I am new to collecting ancient coins, I am somewhat new to buying stuff online as well.

I think you're handling the situation correctly, but thankfully, I haven't been in your shoes yet. I wish you luck, I'll be watching this thread...please keep us updated!

He had all this time to send your coins, but he didn't, so you no doubt have the right to get your money back. You are handling this well as far as I know on dealing with these kinds of things (luckily haven't been in this situation either). Also, report this dealer to Vcoins as well.

You've done everything right, to be honest you have been more patient than I would have been.
Don't miss the Paypal deadline - get your claim in now and let them sort it out, thats what we pay our fees for.

I'm surprised to hear this happening with a seller on VCoins they are usually the most trust worthy dealers around. I agree with the others that you handled it well, better probably than I would. I wouldn't wait any longer to report him to Paypal and to VCoins.

I had a similar issue recently. It took me reporting the issue to get it resolved. Report it.

I think it is time to ask for an immediate refund while agreeing to pay again if they actually arrive. If you don't get a refund and the 45-day limit is closing in, initiate a PayPal dispute. It may work out well in the end and you may get the coins, but you need to protect yourself. -- Warren

A couple of years ago I filed a complaint and received a refund. About two months later the coin arrived with no explanation as to where it had been. The postmark showed it had been mailed as the seller indicated. I immediately contacted the seller to pay for the coin. He, in turn, apologized again and told me to keep my money in payment for my troubles. Even though I insisted on paying, he refused. The moral of my story is be honest with others and you will be rewarded for that honesty, either in this life or the hereafter. Just one other note. I have run across some very honest and straightforward sellers on ebay. Yes, there are some bad apples who give the good guys a bad name, but I think the good guys far outnumber the bad (at least in my dealings on ebay).

Thanks a lot guys.
Well, I emailed the guy earlier today before I went out and now coming home I have a response. Not really a good one either. He wasn't giving me any offers about resolving the issue before hand.
I was being diplomatic as possible, not like how I wanted to be a jerk about it. I didn't want being nasty on any records. Also, I did not think about giving the guy a choice about a refund. But then again, it is really close to the 45 day deadline. I am on day 42 of not receiving the coins.
Hello, Sir.
It's been 42 days and I have still not received the coins. Unfortunately, time is running out and I will be filing a complaint very soon with PayPal. If I don't receive the coins by Thursday morning.
Not trying to threaten you in any way. I believe that I have the right to protect my investments as well as you do.
I also suggest that you close down your shop or state a message you'll be gone for awhile like other dealers do. While you are traveling with family. This may avoid any problems for you in the future.
I'd also like to state that I am very dissatisfied with this deal.
Thanks a lot, have a good one.
This is your right, please do what ever you see apropriate. All the best

I don't really want to take the chance of being ripped off. If I do receive the coins, I will return the money to the seller (assuming I get a refund). As I do want to be honest about this hobby. It's much more fun that way, and it gives you a good feeling that all your coins were obtained honestly. I've done a lot of shopping on ebay, more recently been purchasing coins at VCoins dealers. One thing I haven't quite gotten use to is bidding at auctions. I very seldom win with auctions. Out of about 10 auctions, I won only two.

Where were the coins coming from Gil-galad? 6 weeks is a long delivery time in the 1900s let alone today.

From the United Arab Emirates. The first order I received from him back in February arrived in 12 days. He states on the front page of his shop that orders to the United States takes two weeks. On another page in his shop states 3-4 weeks delivery.

Quote: I just checked again and now he says it takes two months to the United States Thats crazy for an envelope - hows it coming, by donkey and turtle via the South Pole! I cant imagine UAE being much different to Europe where airmail to the US is stated as a week, usually takes around two weeks and should really be considered lost if 3 weeks pass. Claim your 'hard earned' back and let them claim from the carrier. In the past I've usually found its the super bargains I buy that always 'go missing' in the post (generally the post is very, very safe) - basically the seller decides I got them too cheap and does not want to send so doesn't and I have to go through the claims procedure. Oh well, never-mind, better luck next time

I highly doubt these coins were super bargains, but the prices weren't too bad compared to other places.
HASMONEAN PRUTAH - $6.12
ANASTASIUS FOLLIS , CONSTANTINOPLE - $9.52
Trajan, 98-117 AD, AE AS. ROME - $14.96
BYZANTINE ANONYMOUS FOLLIS, JESUS CHRIST - $13.60
These are what they cost, for each coin. Each of these isn't my attribution. It's the title name the seller gave for them.
Hard telling what the seller thinks about these coins.
Oh well. This is the third coin order I've lost so far. Although, not ready to completely write it off as I'm going to wait until Thursday and then file the complain. If they arrive, then I will return the money to the seller.
Yay, 1000 posts now!
