More-Desert-Coins!

Anastasius I

More-Desert-Coins!

Byzantine Anonymous Follis

More-Desert-Coins!

Hasmonean Prutah

More-Desert-Coins!

Trajan

I just ordered these coins from a shop at VCoins. The Byzantine Anonymous Follis is the one my father gave me as a gift. I made sure it was low in cost as possible, but a decent coin. I just added the $14 to the money I have and purchased a few in the same order.

I asked him why he done this and he told me that since I was the only one to tell him happy father's day, is why he gave me the gift. So, I was feeling a bit guilty, but hey; I really was trying to pass on the great hobby of collecting ancient coins! lol

I haven't received nor attributed these coins yet. You guys can if you like. I definitely will if and when I get the coins in the mail.

all cool coins, and a cool gift from your dad!

question:i like the sand patina also, but where is the line between patina and dirt? I'm sure it is subjective, but I think I would probably pick at the third coin. my general rule is if it yields to picking without scratching the coin it isn't pitina.

lol stevex....i wish I was being witty instead of being having bad keyboarding skills.

the reason I ask is, the coin I posted recently here..

https://goccf.com/t/122154

looked quite a bit like a desert patina coin in its intermediate stages (wish I had taken pictures). should I have stopped before I did?

I think patina can be a mix of colorful buildup and oxidation of the surface layer of the coin or with sand patina it's a hardened layer of sand on the surface of the coin that can add a nice highlighting affect of the details on the coin. Sometimes sand patina is good but sometimes it covers too much. These coins all look good you did a nice job picking them out.

yes echizento! highlighting effect is very good. I have a coin that looks worse after cleaning because the lettering was much less visible after. like the lettering on gil-galads trajan really looks nice.

I am thoroughly annoyed right now!

I ordered these coins June 20th, and they still haven't arrived yet as of yesterday. So, I emailed the seller and asked him why. He told me that he mailed them out on July 3rd. No wonder. lol

I'm sure he probably mailed them out with a bunch of other orders to make it more convenient to him. I haven't decided what I'm going to say to the seller. What do you guys do in this situation?

Hi Gil-galad ... again, those coins have very eye-pleasing patina!! ...

Hmmm, but as for the seller who has been a bit slow on the ol' draw => I admit that I would be a bit frustrated, but if you ever plan on dealing with the guy again, then you'd only be shooting yourself in the foot (I certainly wouldn't give him the "best" rating for delivery, but as long as the coins arrive and they look as nice as they do in his photos, then I'd cut him some slack and give him a satisfactory delivery rating) ...

After all, those coins have been on this earth for a lot longer than your 3 week delivery period, right? (man, I'm a total push-over, eh?)

=> enjoy your new coins!!

I purchased one other time from this seller. The first time, he sent the coins right away since I received them in about 12 days.

As with all images posted online, they seem to always look different and in this case I'm sure they probably look duller in color as compared to in hand as I see them here. His images are well lighted and probably using some kind of camera effect that makes the coins look as they do.

The scanner photos I take ain't any better in certain ways. The color is usually closer, sometimes the details of the coin don't look right as they do in hand. Here is a coin from the first package he sold me and then a scanner image I took.

Constantius Gallus - Seller's photo.

So, I'm expecting the coins to look duller in color even well lit. Other factors can change how a coin looks such as the background in which the coin was shot. If you use a green background, the coin may have a green-ish tint to it for example.

As long as I receive the coins, I'm going to put up with the BS because he has a few more coins that I want to purchase and then I'll move on to other dealers perhaps. After cooling down a bit, I decided to be diplomatic about it and ask him to tell me when he ships my coins out from now on.

Haha, I've been known amongst my friends to have a short temper fuse. So, I must be careful when I get annoyed about various issues. Unfortunately, there is no rating at VCoins that I know of. Otherwise, I probably would have told the seller that I will give a bad shipping rating when I was annoyed.

Gil-galad,

Can you give us a name...
I purchased 5 coins from a vcoin dealer on 6/29, check went out, 6/30.. check cleared 7/5, 7/7 no coins, emailed 7/8 and they said they would mail 7/9, didn't get them till 7/12.
This coin dealer is 2 hrs away, one day, but they seem to take there time, I won't be using this dealer any more.

You live in the United States as it says under your avatar. This seller lives in the United Arab Emirates - Dubai, so more than a few hours away. lol

A VCoins dealer, Zurqieh. He has a great deal of coins from that region in the Middle-East. A lot of low priced coins as well that I've been picking through to see what I can get. Problem is that they take forever to get here and of course there is the risk of losing the coins.

After reading about Dubai, made me kind of wonder if the coins would arrive. lol

Dubai has been dubbed by some as the Hong Kong of the Middle-East.

Which seller are you talking about?
