if I could figure out how to post pictures I would shoe a toonie with a real dark core compare to the rest and some doubling on some 202 pennies that show a bit of metal under the first 2 in the date. aaalso a couple of cents of 2007 and 2009 that are missing some of there plating

I read about visiting banks on this post. Mentioned it to my local coin dealer. He said I would need an insider to get any. Went to bank yesterday to make deposit and asked for any old coins and bills. The Teller gave me 9 x 1986 $2 with 3 unc and 1 VF EGR Bonin-Thiessen. Also 10 1973 $1 with 1 unc and 1 VF ACM Crow-Bouey, and a 1867-1967. $29 face for $29. I see her next week. Very cool!

RichVG- sounds like you have made your friend at the bank. Way to go! Now you have to put a smile on her face at all your visits, and she will look after you in the future.

Thanks loonielewy, I will always make them smile, but will also add 25% on paper and 400% on silver as a token of my appreciation.

I don't know if that is going to fly. It is a great thought, but it may be seen as a little bit shady. The teller will not want to take anything like that. It is her job in the mix here. A good joke and friendliness will go along way. Donuts for all is good too.

It's good that you're finding a the 150th anniversary coins once in a while. Here in southern Ontario they're almost non-existant in circulation. Out of the very few I have seen, it seems the dime is the easiest find.

The Vimy toonie was released on Thurs. 1st one to show up here. You found that one fast. Hope they show up around here too. Watch out for the new Leafs loonie now as well.

Nice find! For this year's special 150th anniversary coins, I've only found 2 nickels, 5 dimes, 1 quarter (still looking for the colored quarter), 2 loonies (both given to me by relatives) and 2 twonies (one regular, one color).
Nothing else. I've never seen a year where that year's new coins were so scarce.

Of the Canada 150 coins, I've had pretty good luck here in Ottawa. 12 nickels, 22 dimes, 12 quarters (2 colored), 7 loonies, and 5 toonies (none colored).

jazzy-your in the nations capital, torcan- is in TO. I'm right between you guys. We should have a good spread for these coins in southern Ontario. Mine sit at 4 toonies, 2 colour 2 regular, but both sets have opposite edge lettering. I got lucky and got all four edges with my first four coins. Only have 1 loonie, and have only seen 1 other that was ugly already. 6 colour quarters and 4 regular quarters. 5 dimes and only 2 nickels. Like you torcan, some of these were from family or friends, so not just me looking for them. I can't find loonies or nickels, but lots of quarters and dimes, and a fair share of toonies. torcan and I sit with the same dimes and nickels, but he can't find alot of the other ones. jazzy, good hunting, but being in Ottawa on the 150, and having the mint in town, I'm not surprised by your tally. It looks like TO is scarce pickins'. Too many people looking for these, or just the population? I'll bet it is hit and miss all over the country for these coins. No real rhyme or reason to where you will find them. It's still fun looking!

Agreed, loonielewy, it's too bad the coins aren't evenly distributed across the country. I got a whole ton of them between April and July but since August I've "only" got 5 or 6 of them. Some people I know in other cities haven't found any, which is a shame.
