I purchased this Large Cent that was body bagged by NGC with a purple "illegible date" insert, by I managed to get an image of the date (obviously it's an 1800 not a 1798). Do you think that any of the Top III TPG would accept an image to go along with the "illegible date" coin (re)submittal?

I do not think it would be worthwhile to submit it again, it is in Fair-2 condition and would only be worth ~$20.

Even if for the sake of argument they did and said okay you're right, you'd still have to send it in. They aren't going to send you an empty slab for it

Thanks, I can certainly understand that. Someone mentioned a "Low Ball" set in another thread and got me thinking about this one.

What I meant was would the TPGers even consider an image that went along with the coin that they could not previously identify...kinda like "I found the date, why couldn't you...the paid professional?"

I would say they wouldnt care about any pictures since they have the actual coin in hand. Always better to see it in person than a picture.

As far as that one goes it does look like an 1800 but in all fairness you cant say that with 100 percent certainty

Looked like 1800 to me instantly before I read your OP... at minimum it is not 17-anything, I dont know where they see that. I can see the 3rd number being possibly a 9 or something, but clearly the second number is an 8... I dont have the coin in hand but that's what I'd say. Still, I don't think they are too far out of line saying the date is illegible... I mean is there some reason that we know for sure its 1800, some diagnostic with the coin or date itself? To me it seems likely but not quite 100% certain.

You posted this before I believe. Leave it, and don't re-submit. I think it's an 1800...who knows. Like biokemist6 stated, not worth that much...FR2
