During a recent bout of insomnia, I an infomercial for a collection of all state and park quarters. Their pitch was that theirs were cheaper than the mint issued sets. Am I wrong, or if you bought these, wouldn't you just have a big pile of quarters? The mint issues do have their own inherent value over just the value of the coins, correct?

I'm thinking that someone who just wants the coins will be able to pick them up on the cheap in about ten years when all the non collectors that bought these unload them.

What was their asking price? Normally the TV shows charge way over what everyone else charges for them, including the Mint.

It depends upon what kind of set you bought from the Mint. They have many options. Some are good and some are over priced. Like for a bag of quarters. They are about 35 cents each, but most dealers are selling them for 60 cents each. And then you have to add on shipping. Most common modern BU quarters are sold for around double face value from dealers and that price has stayed steady for many years now. You can get a little cheaper, if you buy by the roll.

With inflation, I don't think prices will get cheaper than double face value for an individual quarter.

When dealers were selling the State Quarters individually, they were 50 cents each (with a few exceptions like TN, etc.). Now the Park quarters are 60 cents each. I don't see their price going down, at all, in 10 years.

It was a great deal to get BU rolls of State Quarters from banks at face value.

Usually the sets are overpriced, but it does save a lot of time if you just want a complete set

I think you hit the nail on the head when you wrote: wouldn't you just have a big pile of quarters?

Mint sets a certainly worth more so I guess they are selling basic run of the mill change. My guess is that even if the quarters are fairly nice, they are going to want a bunch of money for shipping and handling.

I just can't imagine how many people buy those. It has to be a lot because of the cost of the air time, etc.

Your caution is warranted, dont fall 4 their pitch, they r professional snake oil pushers!
If you want those coins, go 2 a local coin shop, you will get a much better deal most likely.
