I posted the other post for a few reasons. One was to get a read on what everyone as a buyer thinks. Yes that was and is a real purchase with a problem. This is post for the positive side of and E-Bay purchase.

What is your expectation of a fast shipped idem?

What is a fair shipping fee "US to US" to make it easy?

Do you like clear photos or ones that have less clarity?

"looking back on past buys how often did you bid more hoping a grade would be better or up-grade?"

Do you mentally shut down when a sales add is long winded?
"I do read them from time to time...Some are really Funny"

REMEMBER !!

1) All sellers make a mistake from time to time! As do buyers.

2) Great sellers are the ones that when an issue pops up, they communicate with the buyer. That's not to say the buyer is right or the seller was wrong. The big key hear is "Communication"

99% of my ebay purchases have been a positive experience.
I prefer nice clear Honest scans or pic's and an honest description which includes faults like cleaned fer example or rim dings.
I have no expectations of "Fast Shipping" because of the slow process of mail delivery here in Aus
If the shipping cost is unreasonable I simply don't bid.
I like long winded descriptions as long as it only pertains to the description/history of the coin up for auction.
If a seller makes a mistake and rectifies it immediately, Then it IS a mistake and all is good But if the seller fishtails and refuses or is hesitant about fixing up a mistake then I just treat the seller as fraudulent and deal with them accordingly.
Communication is the most important part of any sale

I'm happy if the item gets shipped within a few days. I fully understand that most sellers (hopefully) have lives outside of ebay, but I start getting a little impatient if it takes a week or longer.

Just to clarify, by shipping I mean the time it takes for the seller to drop off the package at the Post Office, not actual transit time.

Shipping is one of those things like death and taxes.

For less expensive coins (not requiring Signature Confirmation), $3.00 or so is pretty fair to properly package and ship a single coin. For more expensive coins, I expect the price to go up significantly with the cost of insurance. $40 or $50 or even more might be fair if the coin in question is a $10K coin.

Clear photos of course...but...I've also scored some smoking deals due to a sellers lack of photography skills.

Well I hope I'm one of the 'good sellers' you refer to. I've worked in retail for 30 years and I figure that selling something online really doesn't vary that much to having a bricks and mortar store. The main variation I see with an auction site is that the market generally determines what something is worth by the time the auction ends.

Here's what I consider important when selling online ...
1. Clear accurate photos (same as product display in store)
2. Clear accurate description (as a customer would want to know in a store)
3. Good service including fast shipping (as a customer would want when placing a phone order in store)
4. Communication before, during and after sale is made.
5. Warranty/guarantee and refund terms.

Here's one of my current auctions listed recently so you can see what I mean. I'd be interested also, what you think so I can make improvements on future listings ... http://www.ebay.com/itm/1953-FIVE-S...t_645wt_1270

Hope this helps

Great listing Silvernut
If I didn't already have a box full of these I would bid.
Great pic's , clear description and no BS in the listing to try and dupe people into thinking this is silver ( it has happened before)
Good honest listing

Shipping fee all depends on how its shipped. I prefer faster priority mail and the 5 dollar shipping over waiting 3 weeks to save a couple bucks.

As far as time, I always pay immediately so I do hope they would ship it out the next day, but again as long as they meet their listed time frame I cant complain

What is your expectation of a fast shipped idem?

Shipped within 1-2 days unless communicated otherwise - one guy let me know he was emergency hospitalized and couldn't send it for a while which was fine - for example. A week is pretty poor cust service even for amateur sellers IMO

What is a fair shipping fee "US to US" to make it easy?

Depends on shipping costs. $2-$3 is average for a less expensive coin. For cheapies not sent first class mailer then $1. IMO, expensive coins should have the s&h, and insurance built into the price and not charged separately - it is such a small % of the sale after all IMO it looks crass/low-rent to ask for $20-$50 more separately on top.

Do you like clear photos or ones that have less clarity?

I know some have this notion that bad pics produce bargains for them, but IMO MOST are purposefully done to hide flaws and problems and that is dishonest IMO. So I prefer as good as possible and can't fathom the advantage to poor pics overall.

"looking back on past buys how often did you bid more hoping a grade would be better or up-grade?"

I don't know that I have expected better grading, maybe better eye-pop than could be seen. I have taken chances that coins look better "in hand" than the fuzzy pics showed. Not often tho.

Do you mentally shut down when a sales add is long winded?

Typically yes too long an ad is a turn-off when shopping around. More chance of some "gotcha" clause hidden therein like that they use stock pics or think that ebay return policies don't apply to them ( claiming to not honor returns on certified coins or the like ).

on just about all of the aforementioned comments. I pay as soon as the auction is over. I would expect for the seller to ship the next day at the latest. However there are those larger sellers who I am certain are bombarded with sales, but they should have staff to accommodate the sales. When I sell, I print off the labels (delivery confirmation is free) as soon as I get the message that the payment is made. No, I am not hovering over the keyboard waiting for payment, but when I do get around to it, which is pretty frequent, I do my best to send out the article as soon as possible.

I take several continuous images of the items that I sell, and select the best ones for the auction. Sometimes I take a chance on "less than perfect" images when buying. But I try to put forth the effort to accurately depict the product.

I charge the actual shipping, usually First Class, unless it's heavy, then it goes Priority.

Shipping expectations:
2-3 days for professional sellers. 5-7 days for people just selling grandpa's collection. I sometimes work 7 days a week and understand the PO doesn't keep convenient hours.

Fair shipping cost:
Irrelevant. I go by the total cost of the transaction. This is important considering many of my purchases are from vendors outside of the States.

Photo clarity:
Depends on the price. I've gotten outrageous deals on poorly pictured coins. I've also had a few letdowns. If you're going to gamble, you can't always expect things to go your way. However, if I'm buying at premium prices, the pictures better be good. Often I will ask sellers to provide high res pictures if what they post is not satisfactory.

Long winded adds:
I generally only skim through to find the information that I want.

Put in the mail on the next business day is reasonable.

What is a fair shipping fee "US to US" to make it easy?

I like free

Do you like clear photos or ones that have less clarity?

The only good sales photo is a clear one and right side up, not upside down

"looking back on past buys how often did you bid more hoping a grade would be better or up-grade?"

If at all, only once

Do you mentally shut down when a sales add is long winded?

No, I just ignore the long side of it
