with PCGS you either have to join their membership or have a dealer that is part of their membership submit them for you.

Snooba,
If you end up finding out how to do this then I am interested in sending a coin to be graded too. Perhaps we could piggyback our submissions or something?

Mark,
I'm looking into it further. So as soon as I've joined, I'll let you know.
Snooba.

I have a deal in the works which, if it goes through, will end up with me needing to join PCGS to have a couple graded for resale. In that case, I'll be happy to arrange some sort of piggyback.

Snooba,
DO you have to pay to join? If so we could split costs or something......

SuperDave - That would be terrific. Will you let me know whether you end up joining?
MarkN - Do you mind if we wait and see what happens regarding SuperDave's submissions?

I have come to terms with the seller, and am awaiting his confirmation details so I can send him a cashier's check. This one has me completely stoked - it includes what may well be a Top Pop coin, as well as a lesser coin which is still the nicest example of the type/grade I've ever seen. I haven't decided what level of membership to join at - there are three levels, only the most expensive of which ($US199/yr) allows for free grading submissions. I'm unsure what mix of coins might be available for the free submissions, and depending on how it goes, I may have US coins, World Silver and/or World Gold to submit. Here's the relevant page: http://www.pcgs.com/join/index.chtmlThis page lists PCGS' grading service prices: http://www.pcgs.com/grading_list.chtmlIf we choose to go this route, it might be better for you two to get together Down Under and arrange to only ship one package overseas. Just for the record, you are both agreed on the preference of PCGS over NGC, right?

PCGS is fine with me. I'll be submitting 1 world silver and possibly 1 world gold.

Thanks for the link Dave. You are referring above to the 8 free submissions? Looks like that's the limit, then you have to start paying for them? Just curious your take on it as the site in my opinion is a little misleading. All of the levels of membership make it sound like you get free submissions the way that they word it, until you get to Platinum and see the "8 free". Then it may make you and investigate further. Just my opinion.

Yeah, only with the Platinum membership do you get free submissions, and then only the 8. After that, you pay for grading. What I'm going to find out is, if there's provision for submitting coins in different categories (they differentiate between US, World coins, and gold) with the free submissions. I'm more worried about the US/World split than I am the gold - I don't know if I want my gold in a slab or not. If I can combine, then I'll probably get the Platinum membership and split the grading costs equitably amongst the participants, and perhaps we can save some bucks that way. Frankly, judging from the wording, I'm not confident that I can anyways.

OK, I've joined PCGS. After 3 separate calls, and 3 differing answers regarding how their free grading offers might be split up, I chose not to risk an extra $150 for a service which may or may not meet our needs, and may or may not save us any money anyways, depending on how we choose to submit. It's time to take this business to email; I will email you both directly to discover your wishes.
