This goes back to the FACT that Machine Doubling has nothing to do at all with doubled dies. They should not be compared, they should not be combined. They are very, very different from one another. All of the coins in this thread have common, typical Machine Doubling. They are not doubled dies, and they are not 'close' or 'closer' to a doubled die than any other normal coin. Their appearance is completely different from one another, they are created very differently from one another, and they are valued way differently from one another.

I guess my choice or words are misleading. What I meant about "getting closer" is simply finding something other than the normal 1972 cent. I know the difference between the two forms of doubling. I have learned a bunch of info from you guys. It just gets frustrating to get into a big slump of not finding anything noteworthy. So to me "getting closer" was just a way of a confidence builder to keep searching. Also, I think there are more of us out there who would have beeen thrilled to have found this "machine doubled" cent. I like 'em and find them interesting. No value beyond that. Plus it makes for a more interesting picture!

You shouldn't be thrilled with finding a machine doubled cent. The reason the doubled die cents are so valuable is because they are rare and desirable. Machine Doubling is neither rare nor desirable.

I never mentioned anything about a double die. I was just excited to see something different(ANYTHING) than a normal cent. So I took a pic. Like I said, it's been a long dry spell and this is only different 1972 I've found in months. I'm sure other hunters can relate to a slump. A long slump.
I never said it a "DD". And if anyone took that jump by me saying I'm "getting closer" then I apologize.
I can't be the only one thinking that this cent is interesting...like my title states. The "7" alone makes it very unique to ME. I've never found a "7" like this before.
I learn everytime I log on here. And if by chance I post an interesting picture and someone learns something from it.....GREAT.
I will try not to be vague anymore that may mislead anyone.
The way I look at it, if you like something...someone else might like it, too.
And this means it doesn't have to have a price tag for someone to like or keep or find it interesting.

I guess it is interesting if you find normal cents interesting. I have seen hundreds of 72 cents with MD...I have sent quite a few more prominent than that back into circulation. I have only found one 1972 Doubled Die https://goccf.com/t/116675&SearchTerms=doubled,die and one 1972 that has Master Die Doubling (the master die doubling is also common but I kept it for a reference). When I first started I used to put anything I found interesting in a 2x2 and labeled it...until I had about 100 cents that were all worth one cent. Once I had learned alot more about coins and real errors and varieties I released all of those cents back into the wild. Wasted 100+ 2x2's....I wish someone had told me that hard honest truth.... The coin is normal. Set her free.
