I can't seem to find any reference to it -- is it going to be the same last 2006, or are we going back to pre-2004? Or back to 2005, I hope not.

Or maybe something completely different?

I think this might answer your question. It is from the US Mint legislation page link;

''Subject to other provisions of this subsection, the
obverse of any 5-cent coin issued after December 31, 2005, shall
bear the likeness of Thomas Jefferson and the reverse of any
such 5-cent coin shall bear an image of the home of Thomas Jefferson
at Monticello.'

I'm partial to the profile Jefferson myself. It's kind of creepy having him look right at me. Just my opinion.

Yes, but what pose of Jefferson? Profile? Old profile, new profile, the one where he's half out of the picture, or the looking-right-at-you pose?

I'm with Michael, I don't like the 2006 either.
Rest in Peace

I know we are all tired of the "old" Jefferson obverse, starting in 1938, but I must say I like it better than the current ones.

Judging from your avatar, you must be a fellow Coloradoan!

As far as I know, the foward facing Jefferson is going to be on the obverse.

I am a Coloradoan. A little bit of a coin nut and a hockey nut to boot!

I've been a collector of US coins for most of my life and have welcomed all of the design changes over the years. The Ikes, becentenials, SBAs, SACs, westward nickels, and all the rest. Admittedly, some of them have been a bust, but they've help keep it fresh for me. If we're going to keep Jefferson on our nickel, I'd stick with the newer design. I'd also be for changing the reverse from Monticello to the Jefferson Memorial.

I'm tired of looking at Monticello. I don't care how they enhance it, I'd rather look at something else.

Im also tired of looking at the Monticello, they need to redesign the nickel, penny and dime. Time for a change :)

Yes, Spider -- I just got around to reading last week's Numismatic News. Someone had asked the same question there, and it will be the same as the 2006 obverse.

Too bad.
