Hope this is all right.

I adjusted the white level a little and I think it brings out a little more detail.

Please don't take offense and just let me know if I should not do this.

After doing some research, looks like Dave nailed it, S-11.

Why didn't NGC identify the coin with the Sheldon variety on the slab?

Yes Jim is still dealing.

Good question especially since S-11 comes with three subvarieties and they are NOT all the same rarity. My copy of Breen is back at the shop. I'll try and take a look at it tomorrow and see if this piece is listed in the Condition census and if it is see if I put a pedigree to it. This coin is important enough it probably does have a known pedigree.

TPG's generally charge extra for variety attribution but for a coin as important as this, I would have thrown it in free.

I would have to ask the owner why the variety did not get put on .. could be just did not request it, or maybe it was not even a option on the rush option.. he wanted it back as quickly as possible.

Do you know which edge it has? Vine and bars? Lettered? And if lettered does the leaf after dollar curve up or down?

How does that work where the customer still owns the coin yet the shop had it graded?

Consignment. Customer is not a member of the NGC collectors club, or whatever it's called...sorry.
Store owner submitted for him/her, and makes a small profit on sale.

Beautiful coin. One of the finer examples graded. Pure American history. Thanks for posting pictures.

It was a lettered edge coin, I did not notice which way the leaf curved.

This coin was bought and then resold the next day. I wish I would have had more time to study it. There always seems to be a buyer for rare coins.

As vermontensium posted, the seller was not a member of a TPG and it was easier to have the shop own send the coin in. Once the coin came back, the seller and the shop owner came to a price, both were very happy.

How much do coin shops charge for submitting a coin to NGC?

I used to favor PCGS, but I don't like their "new" slab inserts. Don't you hate it when they mess up a good thing for "new and improved"? I would gather have "old and not-so-good" (Old small ANACS holders).

Sweet coin BTW, and waaaay outta my price range!

Sorry doubled post. lost internet connection and thought the last post wasn't sent sent it again when the connection was restored.

If it had a lettered edge it was probably an 11c in which case it probably is NOT a CC coin.
