Any guesses on this one? I think that it is maybe EF. I am just not sure since this may be the first one that I have seen that was not Unc or at least AU.

I would say more like VF. Had to be a pocket piece; that would have to have been exchanged many hundreds of times to wear to that extent. No small dollar has ever or will ever be able to make that claim!

Check it's weight and edge for the copper layer. It could be a South American counterfeit. I recently came across one in a box search (however that one was more obvious from the strong rim with weak details and being almost 5% under weight).

SteveCaruso, have a photo of that counterfeit? I'd love to see that one side by side with the real mccoy.

Quote: would have to have been exchanged many hundreds of times to wear to that extent. This coin could be from Ecuador. Millions of year-2000 Sac's are in regular circulation there.

DNA- that is true! I just wonder if there is any way to tell if it is just a worn sac or if it is a fake.
SteveCaruso- Very interesting! Were these fakes intended for circulation in South America? I would presume that to be the case since Sacs do not really circulate in the States. And, yes, please do post a pic of your fake.

I'll post a link to the counterfeit's profile on The Black Cabinet once it's up.

That's pretty much the same color as a well used Loonie here in Canada, so I'd say it's probably genuine. We're used to seeing worn dollar coins, you guys would too if you could just get rid of the one dollar bill already! ;-)
