We are in Louisiana and are looking for a reputable or "certified" dealer for foreign coins. inherited a collection which has the usual US and Mexican pieces, but also a lot of odds and ends from Iraq, Israel, Cayman Islands, India, Sechelles, etc. Some of the coins are small gold pieces and are really old, but we simply do not know enough about them to know what to do with them. Are there dealers available who can look at these coins if we bring them to a shop? We really don't like the idea of mailing the collection to someone for appraisal...

Will a dealer know about a 1928 China Auto dollar from Kweichow Province? Can they tell if it is real or fake?

northlafamily: Welcome to the CCF!

From the description of the coins you have, perhaps only a small number of them would need examination in hand by a good coin dealer for an opinion.

In the first instance scan all of the coins you have that you think it would help if we could see them, then perhaps more detailed camera pictures of individual pieces, for us to give a better opinion of those.

Anyone who would make a written appraisal would not do so without having the coin in hand for close examination, measurement and weighing.

With preliminary opinions from us, perhaps you may need to send only one or two coins to a professional to be slabbed or for written appraisal.

Can you please post a photo of the coin from Kweichow Province?

If real, they are worth several thousands but there are just too many fakes around. Fastest way to find out is that if it's magnetic, it's clearly fake.

Next is the weight. If you can give me the exact weight in grams, that would be the best.
