As you probably know, I know very little about grading. In general I like well circulated, old coins. Here's a few I picked up recently off the bay.

1851 Braided large Cent - VF problems, colored?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/20078281997..._1584wt_1185

1831 Capped quarter - AG or less. Just got it becuase it was cheap and hard to find.

1853 Seated type 3 quarter ag or g?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/33074844888..._2881wt_1185

1891 Seated g or vg?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/26104484161...t_515wt_1185

1946 Booker T
http://www.ebay.com/itm/17085726276...t_500wt_1202

1857 flying cent - ag? pourous but was dirt cheap
http://www.ebay.com/itm/29072751765...t_500wt_1202

1852 trime - G or vg - probably my FAVORITE coin so far.

1835 capped dime - probably g- problems

Even with some of the problems, you got some great deals.

nice coins for the price, but the only thing that really matters is "Are you happy with the coins?' That is what this hobby is all about, collecting coins that you enjoy!

I like the trime too. But, then again, I like all trimes!

Yeah, I enjoy them quite a bit. In general, I like very affordable, very old US coins. Sure, having them in great shape is nice, but not a requirement. Just having an example of some rare old coins in my collection is enough for me.

But I also like getting them for bargain basement prices. For example, I'll snatch up just about any capped half dollar if I can get it for $30 becuase I know that even in poor condition they will sell for more than twice that. Same with the flying cent. It's in terrible condition, but even the bad ones sell for quite a bit more than what I paid. in general, I don't like paying more than $30 for a coin unless it's slabbed, and slabbed coins don't really excite me as much as getting a heavily circulated fine specimen of a very rare or very old coin.

I'd love to get my hands on some poor condition draped coins, or a flowing hair dollar or even flowing hair large cents. Also would like to expand my early commenoratives, if I could get a worn lexington or pilgrim halfs to go with my Booker T, stone mountain, Columbus, Monroe, etc that would be terrific.

You didn't get a great deal on the 1851 Large Cent considering the obv. and reverse dings. The detail grade is indeed in the VF range but you cannot just buy a coin for the detail grade, you have to consider the minuses.

Yup, that's a little more beat up than I usually look for. If it was a draped large cent I'd be all over it. As it is, it's still interesting, not quite as alluring to me.

Really? I have not seen a large cent with anywhere close to this sort of detail go for less than $20 yet. I've checked ebay every day for at least a month.

I know that the coin has problems, but is it really less than a $20 coin? If so, can you point out exactly what is is that causes it to drop so much in value? I thought if anything it would be that it's been obviously colored.

Some good deals. But why such a difference in types of purchases?
