I am looking at trying to acquire this coin. Could you please voice any concerns and what you think Fair Market Value is?
Thanks for all your help.
These are the only pictures I have sorry:

It may just be the pictures, but it appears to not be round. That would be uncommon.

The white dust appears to be a bit out of place. If that's not something on the coin, it may be reflections of gritty indentation in the coin, betraying cast marks.

I would only buy this coin from a very reputable dealer that sells these kinds of (Bust Dollars, Early American coinage) quite often and is a specialist.

Otherwise, I'd recommend not buying one raw.

If you trust the buyer and you've viewed the coin in hand and don't have any of the concerns I do, well good. : )

What's the auction house? Any guarantees? This coin should be TPG'd.

I agree it should be TPG I emailed the auction house to see if there are any guarantees. I am pretty sure there won't be though.

There are not only fakes in the marketplace, there are also repaired examples, and I know this first hand as I had a 1795 Dollar with a hole in it and had it repaired expertly... At that time I was doing Coin Shows and another dealer who had viewed my 1795 Dollar gave me the contact information needed and requested that I keep everything hush-hush...

The only draw back with the repair was that this person (well known to those dealers that use him) conceals his "expert" repairs by adding quite a few "contact marks" to blend in his repair with the original fields on the coins, (his work is unbelievable as the repairs are hard to detect to the untrained eye)...

The end result was that all the contact marks lowered the coin I had by atleast 2 grades... I did get this coin in a 3rd party holder (not the top 3 or 4), and when I sold it about 10 years ago on ebay, I mentioned that it was a repaired coin (just in case the buyer wanted to submit it to another grading service...

Knowing what I know about these early dollars, I would never purchase one in raw condition, and would recommend that if you really want one, purchase a Certified example...

Would that be the work of Paul and Allen Stockton?

As much as I complain about first replies always questioning if the coin is real, I too have concerns about its authenticity.

Beyond that, I think that for about whatever price it ultimately goes for, you'd be able to find a much more pleasing graded example, albeit at perhaps a lower grade level than what this one appears to be.

This is what, potentially a mid 4 figure coin? That's too much of a gamble without 100% certainty. I think you could eventually get one with much better eye appeal and in a slab down the road for what this one may go for.

A coin of this importance and magnitude REQUIRES a TOP III TPG certification.

Pending on the cost, return policy, postage and handling fees, might still be taking a chance. I agree with most others that once a coin gets up there price, it really pays to have it gone through a TPGS.

The fact that this coin has never been slabbed should be a concern. I don't like the looks of the surfaces.
If I were in the market for a coin like this, I would opt to pay a little more for a TPG coin. Even one that says "genuine". These are too expensive to make a mistake on.
