The following is a press release from the US Mint

United States Mint to Open Sales for 2012 America the Beautiful Five-Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin™ - Chaco Culture National Historical Park on July 9

WASHINGTON - Beginning at noon Eastern Time (ET) on July 9, collectors may begin placing their orders for the 2012 America the Beautiful Five-Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coin honoring New Mexico's Chaco Culture National Historical Park. The coin is priced at $204.95. As with all products sold by the United States Mint containing precious metals, pricing is subject to change. The maximum mintage for this coin is set at 25,000 units.

The America the Beautiful Five-Ounce Silver Uncirculated Coins are collector versions of those issued through the America the Beautiful Silver Bullion CoinTM Program. The designs featured on the five-ounce, three-inch uncirculated and bullion coins are exact duplicates of those appearing on each corresponding circulating quarter issued through the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program.

Struck in .999 fine silver, these coins display the "P" mint mark indicating production at the United States Mint at Philadelphia. To protect the uncirculated finish, each coin is enclosed in a capsule and an attractive presentation case. A Certificate of Authenticity is included.

Orders will be accepted at the bureau's Web site, http://www.usmint.gov/catalog, and at 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468). Hearing- and speech-impaired customers with TTY equipment may order at 1-888-321-MINT (6468). A shipping and handling fee of $4.95 will be added to all domestic orders.

Everybody has their favorite ATB. This is mine. I'm not a history buff, but wouldn't this coin represent the oldest depiction of people in the contiguous 48 states? I think the ancient people lived here in 500 AD.

Some Chaco history: The site's nine "great houses," the largest of which stood five stories high and had 650 dwelling rooms and 37 ceremonial kivas, along with some 3,500 smaller structures in and around the canyon, may have housed up to 10,000 people at a time. Chaco was the hub of a network of roads-at least 20 of them, each nearly 30 feet wide-that radiated in all directions for distances of up to 100 miles, suggesting that the site may have been a part-time home to pilgrims from other Anasazi settlements who came here for religious ceremonies, trade, or both.
