I have a few interesting 1956-D cents. Of my 50+ 1956-D cents, on 5 of them the D is touching the bottom of the 9 and 5 of 1956, on one the D is a little crooked and just touches the 5. I know there is a D over D variety but this isn't that. Uploading a photo is apparently beyond me so if anyone knows what I'm talking about please let me know.

Thanks!

Thanks GRR.

I don't see any sign of a shadow D and the examples at CopperCoins don't look like mine. I will get help uploading a pic.

to CCF. These are kinda common and only hold a premium if the MM actually touches the numbers.MM's were hand punched through 1989 and stopped in 1990 so they can be in different locations and tilted one way or the other. Photos would help us help you.

With the hand punched MMs there is a lot of variety in MM location.

It is great you are looking at your coins that closely to see the differences. A photo and close up of the mintmark would help us determine, if it is any variety or error.

And the mintmark was hand punched onto the die back then (until 1989 for cents), so it will vary on position.

many of the older coins have Mint marks that wander all over the place. They were added on later and I always wonder what some of those Mint workers had for lunch. One Martini could make a Mint Mark end up almost anywhere.
