Found this at the beach in sebastian, florida on the treasure coast. took it to a "we buy gold" place, they tell me its not gold based on an acid test on a stone. I have seen numerous pictures online with the same markings on both sides, and in a book my friend has, its exact based on the picture in the book. It weighs 20.2g and very clingy when dropped. no magnet reacts to it and the gold buyer tested with magnets also. what could it be?

Hello and welcome to the forum.

What you have is a replica of a Spanish gold coin, which explains why it both matches the pictures and is not actually made of gold. Though I should point out that, if it had been a genuine Spanish-colonial gold coin, it would probably have been worth much more than what the "we buy gold" people would have paid for it, since they'd only pay for the gold content. The example posted in this thread is identical to yours.

You can buy this sort of thing in bulk from replica-makers. Someone would have buried it on the beach as part of a "pirate treasure hunt".

The mintmark is WRONG. The "O" above the "M" should be much smaller.
