Good Afternoon,

Recently I had my first coin selling experience on ebay. I have to honestly say that it was a positive learning experience for me. Earlier this year I bought the 2012 Infantry Soldier Proof Silver Dollar Defender's of Freedom set instead of just the regular Proof coin from the U.S. Mint. I get the set in the mail and sit on it for 5 days before looking at it and realizing that I'm highly disappointed in the packaging and lack of protection of the actual coin. Unfortunately it took me another week to realize I don't like the set enough to actually want to get rid of it but the U.S. Mint only has a 7 day return policy. I started asking a few dealers I know but they all passed, one dealer even gave me an explanation as to why. So, I tried Craig's List and no luck. Then it hit me, try ebay. So, I took the online seller's tutorial on ebay and put the set up for auction and 3 days later it sold and even though I took an 18% ($9) loss overall on the set I'm OK with that because now I can buy the proof coin from the mint like I should have in the first place.

Has anyone else had any experience buying or selling from ebay?

Prices are all over the place on ebay. Some go under value some way over. If you want a fast sale you just underprice it a bit, but if you're willing to wait a lot of times you can over price them some and someone will get it. The freedom sets are hard to sell as long as they're still available from the mint. Once that changes should become easier to sell I think.

A lot of people like to price stuff low to get bidding on it, personally I don't think anything should be listed for less than you are willing to take for it. I hate auctions with reserves, if they won't take less than an amount the auction should have started at that amount
