There seems to be 2 different purple mint wallets for the 1977 mint set:
The easiest way to distinguish is the "Royal Australia Mint" printed on wallet
1. Spread out across whole width of bottom
2. Font more tight and alligned to the right

Does someone have any information as to why 2 different wallets exist
Did RAM run out of wallets perhaps?
Is one an aftermarket issue by 3rd party?

Cheers

Did a quick search and the one with writing on the right seems to be found on US sites so maybe an international thing.

Added BIG pics

I forgot to mention that wallet with writing spread out always seems in much much better condition than the one with writing to right which moreoften than not seems creased and warped

Perhaps this was noticed and wallet replaced with full-width version

Did a few ebay searches and both types show up in Oz, so this has me stumped, never noticed it till you mentioned it.

Yes this can be easily missed - I myself only came across this when looking for a decent wallet

If you look at the pics you posted you'll noticed ripples in bottom one which seems to be in all I've seen thusfar with the right aligned wallets.

Look how good top wallet is as compared with bottom one

The RAM often package their products slightly different for the overseas market, could have something to do with that but not sure.
