this coin was purchased from the RCM years ago, it came in a set. the 1c, 5c, 10c and 25c all were recently graded at MS-60+. these have never been touched by hand, is this coin an error, note the matte finish also stops on the leaves on the right side. *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

That's surprising because it looks as though there is wear on the coin.
Anyhow, this partial toning is easy to achieve artificially.

Curious, I noticed the dates on the coin. Is a 90 yr. type celebration/commemorative the norm. for Canadian coins ? instead of let's say, 100 yrs. Also, is that particular coin silver ? If silver, the toning/color etc. could be easily explained.

@Indian1: Yes, the RCM lately has been issuing as many coins as it can for as many reasons as it can! We had the 90th anniversary of the mint, 100th anniversary, 75th anniversary of the first bank note, 10th anniversary of the loonie, 25th anniversary of the loonie, 10th anniversary of the toonie, etc etc. Circulation issue, NCLTs, bullion, multiple denominations etc etc.

@jakedacc. This is a proof set. It was issue in both a mirror finish and the antique matte finish. Mine looks like the dark part of yours uniformly across the coin. Maybe it was a problem with the finishing process? I would expect them to grade at PF63+.

Not worth grading. You can buy the whole set, 1c to 50c, for well under issue price.
