Hello All,

Found this toonie in my change last week and thought it was dirty but then realized it looked like major die clash or something. Kind of like the hanging 3 or 4 in the 1960s pennies but much more. Let me know what it might be because I do not have much exp with error coins. The clash is on both sides but not sure what it is.

I agree with errorone2012. I have not seen a die clash like that.

Major die clash markers are: the crown between the mountains behind the bear (rev) and a "beard" on the queen (obv). The coin is frequently called Mountain Type I.

To call a coin a die clash, elements of the opposite die must be pressed on a face of the coin.

I agree with errorone: environment damage, AKA - the coin is dirty

I will have to bring this to the Nuphilex show in November, the marks are not consistent with being dipped in anything. I have to disagree because I could tell if this was caused by some sort of acid or cleaner.

I'll be there.

Gabriel (the show organizer) can point me to you. It will be a pleasure to look at the coin with you.
