I think you missed the point...but...whatever..

A review:

Facts = get an easy answer myself

opinions/share experiences, acquisitions = post it here

Works great that way

I should add the " ok?" says a lot

I said the answer was in Red Book. I didn't say it was obvious. I can understand how ilzho didn't see that the answer was there. I didn't recognize it until I had used the Red Book several times for other purposes and finally had an "Aha!" moment. Don't be afraid to ask questions ilzho!

Just as a side note, since we are making lists...

Wasn't the Matte JFK half produced in SF?
There were also 2 modern Matte Jeffersons, but I think those were Philly.
Correct me if I am wrong.

jbuck, I was just kidding, you know.
I knew you were, Celtic, but just in case others missed it, I directed my question to everyone.

I do think people tend to take the easy way when they can (as in, asking a question instead of taking the extra steps to look it up for themselves)
True, but we should look at all questions as an invention for discussion. Sure, you can tell someone how to search, but you should also give them the answer. Why? Because they had the courage to ask a question. Not everyone is at the same level as the more experienced members, and this goes for using the internet as well (searching does not come naturally to everyone). We all start somewhere; I would rather have the new ones start here.

Ok, so "look it up yourself" IS an answer... ;) And not a bad one, really. Think of how much more a person can possibly learn by taking the time to research their question. Just by opening the Red Book you're bound to absorb a fact or five (or at least see coins you never even new existed).

"Oh, you don't know where or how? Well, ok, that's fine, allow me to guide you to the answer you seek, then." That I don't mind in the least. That's the best form of teaching in my opinion. And you can drop some great nuggets along the way then. "Oh, yeah, Franklins are the BEST". "Nah, don't spend a ton on THE VDB just yet." "You should sell me your wheat ears at face value." "These are not the droids you're looking for."

And talk about invention for discussion. Case in point -- just look at how this thread has morphed from a question of SF Mint / proof coins to a philosophical discussion of what makes a valid question. =)

Agreed. Wholeheartedly. We're all on the same page here. Good discussion.

:)

P.S. ilzho, no, I don't have a Jack Russel terrier. Or was that Chihuahua you were thinking? Sorry, my mind reading skills need some fine tuning (ask any woman
I've ever known).

In the Biblical sense?!?

OK, sorry, scratch that! I just couldn't help myself.

I'll go sit in a corner.
