I know the golden colored American president dollars aren't real gold. My question is should I keep my American president dollars or should I use them to invest in other parts of my collection.

If you collect them, keep them. As an investment, I doubt you will even keep up with the rate of inflation by holding these.

I keep one of each, not particularly attached to them though. I just cashed all the extra ones in that I had lying around and put them towards a 1996 ASE.

I'd collect the set simply because it's fun and cheap, then spend your duplicates. I'd also recommend this thread for the latter half of that endeavor: https://goccf.com/t/115851

buy actual old silver coins with them. Those presidential coins aren't going to be worth a lot. Probably face value

I have been saving one of each year and mint mark since it is fun to see them all together. As for them ever being worth anything, doubt it but then again little if any of what I collect is for its monetary value. I buy small amounts of PMs for that as mentioned above. Also, mentioned above is "Project 100K" come join the fun. That is where all my duplicate Presidential dollars go.

I foresee that in 100 years they will be sought after especially the Obama dollar. Especially since if I remember rightly when the Morgan dollar came out it also was unwanted. Times do change and everything has its day or days in the sun.

with ghostrider on this one, but as for now they do not really have any added value at all. But again if you like to collect them then do.

ghostrider, unless by an act of Congress, either Ford or Reagan will be the last coin in the program in 2016.

If congress has any say (and they do) this series will be brought back to life as each of the current presidents die off. To paraphrase a popular sentitment never let a opportunity pass to honor a dead politician (the good, the bad, and the ugly).
However I'm afraid that you're right about the series ending in 2016. Clinton, the Bushes, and Obama are still relatively young and I don't think that mint will want to start up the machines for this series once the spigot has been turned off for a number of years.

If Carter suddenly passes, won't he make it?
Also, I see no value to collecting anymore than needed for an album or display. No intrinsic value and way to many made.

OK, how about this question re: gold dollars: Is there any privately minted presidential tokens out there that include the most recent guys that are the size of the current dollars (26mm I believe); that way, you can add them to your albums in the proper order to "complete" the set. The somewhat recent Sunoco tokens were way too big. And I think the Shell Oil ones of the late 60s, besides not including the latter-day presidents, were too small.
Anything out there you think?

Quote: If Carter suddenly passes, won't he make it? Carter must pass by early 2014 to be eligible for his dollar in 2016.

Im not sure about the size but I've seen some of them. Theres no 1 website that I know of that has them all and am not sure if there is one for them all but I know at least some of them are out there. Some copper "medals" that look to be about the size of an Ike dollar are out there with Regan, Clinton and Bush coming to mind. Might be a little hard to fill the Nixon one with a favorable one anyway
