I don't understand how the colours get onto the pieces.
Does the mint use coloured metal, is every item painted by hand, is every item painted my machine, or some other method ?
Are the jewels/pearls a sort of 'trompe l'oeil' effect painted on the metal, or are they actual jewels inset into the coin ?

Some of the various Mints around the World with some of their products, are getting out of the area of numismatics, and tending towards the area of decorative art with these efforts.
Visually, they seem to be quite acceptable.
The colors are placed on the coins after striking, with a Pad Printing process. There are quite a few good videos re pad printing on YouTube.

I like the Tasmanian Tiger and the Berlin Wall. Been looking for the Tiger for a while but it is always more than I have at the time. :D

Those coins with pearls are actual pearls and the Canadian coin uses Swarovski crystals. The cook islands make alot of "art" coins. Browse APMEX under I think worls most fascinating category under silver. Also Perth mints website has alot of neat coins if you're into that. I would love to see in person some of the coins with cathedral layouts and stained glass in them to see if they're worth the huge premium, also the perth's ocean aquatic series but since alot are sold out and I'm a "want em all" type I haven't gotten any. Oh back on topic, nice coins, is the snowflake coin real nice looking in person? I like the swarovski crystal designs the Canadian mint is doing.

Very neat collection of most unique coins. I love any silver piece with the Swarovski crystal.... There is a Swarovski crystal store in the mall down from where the gold kiosk is located, and they have some amazing crystal sculptures with COA and documentation signed by the artist who created them, such as the Lunar tiger which of course was crafted back in 2010 to celebrate the year of the tiger.... The fellow in the store said at 400 it was a great price, as they are often priced anywhere from 6 to 8 hundred on ebay.... Most fragile, but under the right light most beautiful to look at Swarovski crystal.... Don't forget that the Mongolian endangered species silver series which is so ridiculously priced, use the crystals for the eyes in the pieces as well....

I like the marine life protection series...seems pretty cool. I will have to look up who makes them etc. And I still like the swarovski crystal pieces. I was told by a fellow collector he thought they looked gaudy. I did a quick search on ebay and can't figure out what a swarovski crystal is worth. The reason I was looking is it seems rather expensive for the coins considering its still 1 ounce of silver. But apparently I know nothing about swarovski...

Thanks, everyone. While I love collecting ASEs and Maples as much as the next guy, a few years ago, I expanded my collection to include all sorts of exotic and colorful world coins, mainly at the behest of my lady love. After a while, I came to love the variety as much as she did and now it's 90% proofs and 10% PMs for me, rather than the other way around. Since then, I've noticed that proofs have typically grown their value a bit better than mass produced silver. For instance, where my ASEs have doubled in value since 2009, most of my proofs have increased by about 2.5-3x, and a handful have shot up anywhere from 5-20x in price. This is all a long-winded way of stating that one shouldn't be leery about entering such a market. For those with the knowledge to navigate it, there is definitely money to be made here.

traevin,
I know you have a vast collection. I've looked into the canadian snowflakes and the Palau pearl coins. Seems like the original mint pricing is pretty high. Are these coins part of the proofs that have appreciated in value since say 5 years ago vs original mint pricing? I was interested in acquiring some but was doubtful on how or if they would apreciate given the high issue price vs actual PM value. Any insight on other proof coins that I should look into? Not stepping on your toes BTW just looking for some direction as I have actually been following your purchases lately...
