So I have a nice new Constantine I with a "dot ASIS dot" mint mark. However, I am not sure how to grade it. Any thoughts? Thanks!

I'd say VF+. Not quite EF, even though the coin has a lot of details preserved well, except the worn legend on the obverse.

Not sure how to grade Ancients. I guess I grade it as like it or not. In this case, I like it. Nice coin with lots of detail.

If this coin was in my collection I would grade it at VF, nice looking coin.

stevex6 & echizento- Thanks!

I actually picked this on up along with an Arcadius of lesser quality (a fine or so) for a grand total of $30 shipped. Do you guys think that I paid too much?

Personally - I think that could be cleaned further. I'm not sure if Id pay $15 for it - but I am not an expert, I buy uncleaned so I wouldnt pay much for a cleaned coin anyway.

I don't think you paid too much for both coins, although I haven't seen the other coin. Most of my Constantine I coins cost me around $10. But I have a couple I paid higher. This one that is similar to your coin in condition I actually paid $21. To be honest, I have some better detailed coins I paid about half this.

Archraz => sadly, I've found this section of the forum to be very "price conscious" (cheap)

=> ummm, but in "my" not so respected opinion

=> you paid $30 (thirty measly bucks) for a coin that is almost a couple of thousand years old! (are you kidding me => I think you rocked that deal!!)

JW: That coin you posted is hardly a common type that I know of. With one standard that I never saw before. The obverse legend also is not too common. The mintmark as well.

A right facing portrait as well as saying CONSTANTI-NVS MAX AVG. I wonder if that coin is part of the special issues when Constantinopolis was being built? That's the same obverse legend that is on this coin;

I don't want to hijack this thread, so I will post my coin in another thread when I return in about an hour or so. We can perhaps talk about my and your coins.
