The only decimal error coins that I can think of being found in the wild which were caused by mint staff installing dies incorrectly are the 2000 mule, the 2007 double headed 5c and the 2010 rotated 50c. Are there any others?

Maybe the 1977 50c mules. I don't know what circumstances they turned up in though, but I believe there's more than one.

I read in the 1982 edition of Myatt and Hanley's Aust. Coins, Notes and Medals - page 21 - that a die for Canberra 2 cent pieces was installed upside down, despite all precautions so potentially there are 180 degree upset 2 cents coins out there......no date given, but presumably sometime in the 1960's
I'm a bit suss on the 50 cent mules. I recall the 1977 was confiscated when first put up for auction, as it got out illegally. As for the 1988, you'd think more would be found if it was a genuine error, as those presses put out coins by the hundreds every minute......
2001 Federation dollar and 2001 20 cent piece are also found in varying states of rotation

I think the 2001 dollar and 20c are closer to mechanical failures - the retaining screw fell out. With the dollar mule and the rotated 50c, the die was installed incorrectly in the first place and should have been spotted immediately.

I believe it said it was 1966 and that someone (the article author or their friend) hadn't found one in many years of searching. Quote: I'm a bit suss on the 50 cent mules. Another error coin I have never heard of this 50c it keeps us looking.Until these are found by others I am not prepared to even believe this coin is real. The 2001 Fed upsets were full on real but this 50 is suss to mind

Several members here have found them deano so they are definitely genuine errors. I really would like one and would pay $50 but not any more than that.

I have a couple references regarding upset 2 cent coins, both 1966, one says 15° or 11k upset P mint, other says 330° upset both P & M mint. They are just details that I copied whenever I saw them, no known sources at this time. Can't find any reference to 180° upset, but I probably never saw the article.

The passage in the book refers to the Canberra Mint, and the first Controller was Mr James Henderson. Apparently they had keyways cut into the hubs of the dies to stop them coming loose, yet someone installed one with the keyway 180 degrees out, so putting out an (unknown) number of upset 2c pieces. This was written in 1980, and I've not seen any upset 2c in adverts/auctions There are 10 cent coins from 1966, not sure what mint they are from - and these can be other than 180 degrees.

Yeah, I was just looking at it. It's a very new buyer, only has 1 FB so far. Too pricey in my opinion.

Hi all, The 2010 50 cent rotated die is very real and I have a few extras in my collection. For any CCF members who are interested I will sell them at $70 each. From reading the thread this may a bit higher then some of you would want to pay but go on! I know you want it. TCH
