07/10 138 AD Hadrian dies of natural causes in the resort of Baiae, after ruling the Roman Empire for 21 years. In 136 he had adopted one of the ordinary consuls of that year, Lucius Ceionius Commodus, to solve the problem of the succession.

07/13 100 BC Julius Caesar born in Rome. The unmatched military power he'd amass would allow him to play a critical role in the gradual transformation of the Roman Republic into the Roman Empire, after extensive reforms of Roman society and government.

Interesting history of the week. Let's have a Julius Caesar day on Friday, showing off your Julius Caesar coins. Too bad I don't have any. :(

Thanks, I look forward to seeing them.

Yeah, I don't have any Hadrian coins either. :(

I went through a stage where I only collected first century coins up to and through Hadrian. So I have several Hadrian coins as well. I still buy an occasional first century coin, but not very often any more. Too many nice coins and so little money, eh?

=> wow!! ... I'm pretty sure that not too many other Roman rulers have that quote engraved on their tombstones, eh?

Yup, if I'd been Hadrian, I would have handed-out annual safety awards to all of my loyal merry-men, that said:

=> "It's been 20 great years fellas and we're still Rockin' Rome"
