Hi all. I decided to start a nickel collection and I was wondering if there were any nickels that are worth saving regardless of quantity, other than War Nickels, and the 50-D or should I just let go of any coins I already have in my collection?

don't save all pre 1960. For example there were 168 million 1958-D nickels. most searchers save anything with a mintage less than 10 or 15 million.

More like a small apartment. Those things are everywhere! Hate those 64's though. I see a mintmark by the Monticello and I get all excited thinking it's a keeper but it's just one of those 64's But back on topic; thanks for the replies everyone. I guess I'll be keeping those with a somewhat low mintage. Around 20 million or less. Unless they're War Nickels.

I keep the 64s to make rolls and sell them off to a dealer

? Cant be! If you are please tell what "dealer" would tie up $ in rolls on 64's . That would be a very bad business move..

I save anything before 60 myself... However, I don't roll search or anything, so I don't see many. It's just about pocket change for me.
If you don't want to worry with too many dates, I would then suggest 1938 to 1945, and the 50-D.

You guys do know there is a 1964-D repunched mintmark Jefferson. Don't tell me you haven't been looking for them! Probably what the dealer is doing is selling those as "unsearched" rolls.

Contrary to everyone else, I suggest you collect as many 1964 Nickels as possible. That way the rest of us may find something else in change besides those.

I save all "S" mint nickels as well (68-69-70) I just like having "S" mint coins that are not proofs. All pre 1960's are also keepers for me as well. Don't forget about all 2009 nickels because of there lower mintage.
