Nice coin. This is a billon argentues of Constantine I. Give me a few minute and I'll come up with a RIC # for you.

I think your coin is an AE Follis of Constantine I Arles RIC VII 188: IMP CONSTANTINVS AVG, laureate, cuirassed bust right in high-crested helmet / VICTORIAE LAETAE PRINC PERP, two Victories standing facing one another holding shield inscribed VOT PR on altar decorated with diamond, dot at each corner & dot in center, P(star-over-crescent)A in ex.

Thank you jw, echizento, Went on wild winds, I think its Ric Vll ..188,for some reason , I thought it was kind of City Commem, because the obverse have the same look...

Overlooked the diamond on the altar, RIC 188 would be the right one.

I think you could clean this one further - Certainly on the altar and lettering. Better coin for your buck

I wouldn't try and clean it any more. It has a nice dark patina now and any attempt to clean it would IMO would remove the patina.

Thanks for the input BenByfield, but i'll have to agree with echizento...the high points are starting to show bronze. I have been cleaning over 200 coins since Jan..some I've gone to far, you get to that point of no return....

I also agree with echizento. No more cleaning for this already nice coin.

Nice coin. I have yet to own this reverse type. Perhaps in the future I will.
I wouldn't touch the coin cleaning wise either. Just because from the image, it looks like the patina is thin in some places.

I agree too, nice coin just the way it is. I happen to have 3 of these types from Arles and thought I would share my RIC 185 without the diamond on the altar with my standard low quality Iphone pictures -Kurt PS. I forgot to ask, did you find this coin in an uncleaned lot? I am envious if you did.
