It is not an error, your coin was restruck with a soft die.

It is really neat looking but I am having trouble visualizing how that would happen. Can anyone do one of the overlays for wheat cents?  Edit: now that CaptainFwiffo pointed out the rotation, I can see understand it now. Thanks CF!
