Story surrounds this seller http://www.ebay.com/sch/kiong88/m.h...op=10&_rdc=1kiong88 who sold washed, cleaned, bleached, trimmed and pressed notes to someone here in Adelaide. Mentions how collectors can be caught by buying fiddled notes and they should go to a reputable dealer. They also showed the listings of sirwilliamofpennylot http://www.ebay.com/csc/sirwilliamo...3911.c0.m283not because they are involved but that they mention Paypal in their listings and that's how these dodgy's get your money and run with it.

Oh yeah. I know this seller. Lists Private and uses phrases like EF or better, It's well known, that his notes (from singapore) are always cleaned or pressed at least. And course, he displays the TOP RATED SELLER from ebay. What a joke..I find it hard to believe he has no negative feedbacks. He seems to re list the notes over and over again at different times. I've been a buyer and many years ago a seller on ebay. It's almost impossible to buy quality notes from ebay, that's why I quit trying, after being burnt so many times. What's worse is, someone lists a note as UNC, and it sells for 1/3 of the book price for example, then everyone thinks its the market price. I recently bought a Armitage McFarlane Five Pound (blue issue) in true, natural uncirculated condition for 6500. But find them on ebay in "this supposed grade" for less than half.

That advice would apply to anything collectable. Like anything you really have to do your homework and accept the fact that it is almost impossible to grade a note from a photo. I buy my notes from trustworthy dealers and dont have a problem. They are also a good investment in higher grades because over time their fragility makes higher grades more and more rare.

Yes I think you found the person that got the media involved in this.
I forgot to mention those who are looking at the today tonight address that their website is not user friendly.
Also in my post above I relayed what was said in the news story and not what I personally think about the best place to buy a good banknote.

I find it funny that Richard Fahy, the right note, shows his face on the story. Him being the worst ever dealer I have ever dealt with in my life. Talks so much bs, absolute low life scumbag. Heard of so many people taking him to court over issues. Steer clear of this guy. Cant be believe he is on, acting all professional, gentleman, honest like. His skin must be thicker than 50 crocodiles. Here's just a few examples from his website that show how "honest" he is... Listed on his website, Riddle Sheehan R11 D/80 436015 as UNC FOR $13,000 http://www.therightnote.com.au/shopexd.asp?id=846Same note sold by Nobles, Graded EF/VF sold with another note for $150 http://www.noble.com.au/auctions/se...436015&c=&s=Listed on his website, Riddle Sheehan R28 L/14 796216 as aUNC FOR $3,500 with description Crisp with no faults. http://www.therightnote.com.au/shopexd.asp?id=753Same note sold by Nobles, Graded gEF CLEANED note for $1500 http://www.noble.com.au/auctions/se...796216&c=&s=And the list can go on all day.....pretty much, if you want to buy from him, lower it 1-2 grades and add in a few restorations here and there..

I don't think we got that story in Vic I went to watch today tonight on Monday and they did a stupid thing on the runaway captain that sunk a ship. Ended up watching bargain hunt YAY
On stackers they said they also aired a story on how crappy gold traders are and you get ripped of, something along the lines they went to sell $1100 of gold and traders only offered $400, now that's a rip-off.
