While searching online I came acrosse this bill at a price which I thinks is extremely good for this series bill. The reverse of the bill has a weird patter on the edge. Can this be from tape? Also, what is a reasonalbe price for this bill? Image: f2300acback.jpg69.58 KB Edited by laxmaster92 02/28/2007 4:06 pm

Laxmaster92:
I knew I read somewhere about Hawaii on the dollar bill, so I went back and found what I read. I copied this from Wikipedia: """World War II brought about special issues of one dollar bills in 1942. Special $1 Silver Certificates were issued for Hawaii in case of a Japanese invasion. HAWAII was printed vertically on the left and right side of the obverse and also horizontally across the reverse. The seal and serial numbers were changed to brown. Special Silver Certificates were also issued as payment for Allied troops in North Africa about to begin their assault into Europe. The only difference on these one dollar bills was a yellow instead of blue seal. Both of these types of notes could be declared worthless if they fell into enemy hands."""
Does your dollar have Hawaii on the front too? LeAnn
PS If it does, can you post of picture? I've never seen one. Thank you.

I would say they might be rust from little metal clips used to hold it in a frame? I am thinking the one in the center of the bill look to skinny to be tape. Are they on the front as well?

Nice notes Scoutjim. Scoutjim, I dont have an up to date price guide. Can you tell me what a good price to pay for something with this this kind of damage would go for?
Thanks

For The Nort African $1.00 they Range in price in VF to -Ch.CU $30.00 , $38.00 , $100.00, $125.00
the Hawaii Over print $1.00 range in Vf to CH cu from - $38.00, $42.00, $90.00, $125.00
Keep in mind My book is from 2003 also they made Yellow Seal notes in $1.00, $5,$10 and for Hawaii they made $1.00, $5, $10, $20. I think they are more rare to come buy than what is published, as I do not see all that many of them so I personaly would Pay a touch more.
theone You posted I would say grades Good - Fine I figure you can prorate it down in price. I would guesstimate $10..- $20.00 would be the range on the note you posted. But really I might pay $15.00- $25.00

laxmaster92, I would of sworn I seen that exact same bill on ebay like a month or two ago. Had the same marks on the back and are probably from someone having it in a frame of some sort. I rarely see Hawaii notes go for under $20 on ebay in any grade. Even my local dealer has some very very ugly ones and he wants $25 and up for them. And when I'm saying ugly I'm actually being kinda nice... Ty

Eric, Yes, I got the coins. Thanks a lot!
Even with that damage on the back of the bill, it's still a $20 note either way. Ty
