I am brand new to collecting paper currency and decided to start by looking through the cash I had on hand. I found a series 2001 $100 note with the serial #: CB26042604C. From reading this forum, I have noticed that most of the notes serial number collectors have posted are of smaller denominations (Because it is cheaper and has a higher premium?). Is there any added value, above face, to a bigger denomination bill like this? Thanks from a newbie.

to the forum!

In answer to your question, most people don't want to tie up $100 on a fancy serial unless it is really a good one, and then they are going to want a bran new one without any wear. So technically it has some worth over face, but not enough to really justify holding on to, unless you just have a lot of money laying around and want to be different. I treat notes like that as a curiosity, take a photo of it and then release it back into the wild.
Rest in Peace

I'd keep it. I suppose there could be a premium on such a note but it all comes down to who will buy it and how much will they pay.

I'd be delighted to find a note like yours, but I wouldn't pay for one.

And I would keep it --- right up until I found one in better condition.

At my coin club I see the guys trading stuff like that -- I think they just enjoy having for awhile and then trade it for something else.

I like Nickelman's idea. You've got the photo so keep it as long as you like then see if you can trade it or sell it.

How much would you ask for it? If it were a $1.00 you could ask 8 or ten times face value, but it's a hundred. ebay has a listing fee, a selling fee (a percentage of that hundred and any profit), and Paypal charges you to collect the money. So you would have to sell it for at least $110 just to break even. So to make a profit it would have to sell for more than that. Can you really see someone paying $120 for it in that condition?

Just sayin

If I had it, it would be spent. Only uncirculated notes command a premium. If you put it on ebay, they'll make more money in fees than you will profit.

It's true ebay will profit from your sale. But you will also make a profit on something you would have otherwise returned to the wild...
