I found the below Lincoln Cent some time ago. I am not sure what caused the distortion on the obverse of the coin. It appears that the field is lower on most of the coin. The area near the rim at 3:00 appears to be raised to the normal level. I did notice that is was struck partially out of collar. Any help or explanations would be appreciated.

It looks like an extreme version of the third coin pictured.

I have several struck through die caps, but I don't think that any of them show what is shown in the third photo above. Maybe the partial out of collar has something to do with the metal flow. It does resemble the photo mentioned on the above link.

I'm no error guy but it does appear to be a late stage capped die...where is Mike when we need him ?

As others have said, the obverse was struck through a very late-stage die cap.
