Hi, I was wondering if someone could help me in identifying a possible error coin. My fathers collection has this penny in it and we're not too sure if its a die break or just someone did something fancy to it. He's had it in his collection a while and would like some opinions. At first glance it looked like tool damage, but the detail of the coin is not damaged beyond the pie mark.

Thanks in advance!

...EOCanuck...to the forum.

I have seen this effect in my wood working hobby...This looks a lot like a chisel and hammer job to me...It has the same characteristics of a shape point (at entry) and one bevelled side.

Thanks for the welcome :D A chisel would make sense, I was checking into die cracks and what not and it didnt quite look right for that. Thanks for your opinion.

I find coins like that sometimes, they look like someone attempted to cut them with side cutters.

I don't know who would want an eighth of a penny, but then again times were tough in 1932.

Rest in Peace

Yup!

Some folks were only making 4 1/2 cents an hour so you gotta make change sooner or later.

Its too bad, the condition of the penny otherwise is nice. Not too sure why someone would chisel their coin though.

Chisel both sides in the same place? Twice? More likely cutters.
