Guaranteed not to be authentic and yet there are buyers.

Makes me wonder if the bidders are interested in it for one of two reasons:
1. To fill a hole they would not otherwise be able to afford even knowing it's not authentic
or
2. the more sinister option... to re-sell as authentic.

Bidding just jumped to $100.99. Unbelievable. I don't know if ebay will pull it or not. I think they might since the seller put "S" in the title and original description. I don't think they'll let it fly, but I dunno... we'll see what happens.

Theres no reason to report that listing. He put it was altered and shows a picture showing the TPG said it was altered as well. If people still want to bid on it knowing that thats up to them. As far as I'm concerned that listing is fine. Not sure why anyone would bid on it but the seller isn't doing anything wrong

$100.99 I think there's only one reason somebody would pay that...

I agree no reason to report it - the seller couldn't make it any clearer that the mintmark is fake.

Now up to 20 bidders. And it does not say faked mint mark, only altered. I sure wouldn't pay a lot for a coin like that unless it was made clear exactly what ALTERED means. Scarry what a twist on terminology could or would indicate.

I have to admit to being confused. When I look at the ad it seems as though PCGS is saying it is an "1909 S 1C" and then "mint mark altered".
Why does it not say "1909 1C", "mint mark added ( or some such verbage)"?
To me it almost says that PCGS is saying that it is a real 1909 S, but that the mint mark has been altered for some reason. I mean PCGS is saying on the header that it is a 1909 S...right?
This is one where I would love to be educated!

I'm guessing that NGC changed its terminology at some point. On this page, altered is mentioned "so as to simulate pieces of some other date and mint." Certainly, nobody would "alter" a genuine mintmark?
