The 1930 penny first became known of in the late 1930's and examined by museum staff in Melbourne in about 1940. In Sydney a dealer (Dave) was advertising them in about May 1945 and he aquired dozens from paperboys etc at about a shilling each (IIRC).
I wish I saw this fakes listing before it got pulled. If it was an English die and flat rimmed altered date 1920 penny then it was worth a few thousand at least (before alteration). More likely it was just a modern fake.

The 1930 Arrow head did not sell - though somebody made an offer for it. Posting this as the listing will disappear at some point.

Surely you can see that this is NOT a GENUINE 1930 penny. Look at the zero, it's huge and blind Freddy can see it would have originally been a 6, so it's an altered date 1936 penny. I think you should put this information in the description of the item, so people are aware exactly what they are bidding on.
I sent this message to the seller.

Let's see if there's any response.

I got this response from the seller:
Quote:
how do I know that? don't you think if I knew for sure I would be asking for thousands for the coin.
I just wish that ebay would take note of these unscrupulous money hungry scabs and get rid of them all!

So, the following message has now been sent to ebay:
Quote:
This item is being sold as a 1930 Penny, which is an extremely RARE coin in Australia, but this particular coin has been altered to LOOK like a 1930 penny, It used to be a 1936 Penny and the 6 has been changed into a 0, which is so much larger than a 0 on a genuine 1930 Penny really is. There is absolutely no way that this is a genuine 1930 Penny and Attempted FRAUD is being perpetrated by the seller of this item and ebay should NOT allow it to continue.

If anyone else would like to send a similar message to ebay, this is a good place to start:

Item # 140809727755

With a little bit of luck and a lot of imagination, the sale might get pulled.

Interesting "rationale" that the seller is using for pressing on. Well done Nancy.

This is the reply I got from ebay.

Hi Nancy,

Thanks for contacting ebay in regard to 2012collectanycollectmany's listing.

I reviewed the said item and could not find any guideline that we can tag this coin for removal. You can check the link below for guidelines on what can and cannot be listed on the site:

If you see listings you think violates our policy, kindly send them through the report item link so we can review and take action when necessary.

We appreciate your time in bringing this to our attention. Thanks for choosing ebay.

It'll probably be the last time I bother to contact them. Totally useless and a waste of my time.

How about the part of the policy that says

ebay does not permit the sale of coins or paper money that are fraudulent or improperly described. Sellers who knowingly fail to disclose information about the authenticity of coins or paper money, alterations to coins or paper money, or other information that might have a material impact on the coin or paper money value may be reported to the authorities.

Gee I have to say that is very very poor form on behalf of the seller for something that he knows is fake and ebay for not pulling the auction and the link that ebay provided says under additional information that it must "include all information concerning any alterations that may have been made to the coin", "Include all Relevant information that is known about the coin" and "if unsure of the origin or authenticity of the coins they should disclose this in the description." I mean how much more Guidelines can they break there are four of them and he has broken three! Sorry for that rage but seriously? who in the world is running that department at ebay? You can CLEARLY see that it is FAKE. What else does ebay want to prove that this is attempted FRAUD?

It does make you wonder how off a listing has to be for it to be actually pulled by ebay.
