Unfortunately your coin is a fake and worth very little. Here is a link to a real one http://museumvictoria.com.au/collec...lements-1893. Look at the number 3. It has a a vertical serif, while yours does not. Also look at the diameter and weight to see if it is the same as stated on that website.

I sold one last year that got me just shy of $100.....but it was at least EF40+. Was a low mintage year, too. Yours looks like somebody dug it out of the ground! I still like it!

It at least looks genuine to my untrained eye, unlike the OP's coin which is glaringly fake.

I had a 1896. Coin does look different, though!

Did you weigh it and check it with a magnet?

yes it is the right weight and size , 1896 had 120,000 coins minted and a book value of $520 in ef
this had 24,000 minted and value of $3200
according to ngc
so if you got $100 I could expect 1/5 of $3200
can you put a picture of your coin up?
