In your opinion for silver, what rolls are the best odds?
Quarters, dimes, nickels, or halves?
I've done a lot of quarters and got nothing.
Each $150 to $200 I do of dimes, I find at least one.
And nickels I've only found one out of probably $500+
I haven't done a lot of halves yet. I've been doing a couple rolls at a time when I get my dimes, just to see if I get lucky.
So to me dimes are the best way to go. But for halves, what would be a good amount to buy to maybe have a chance?

Awesome. I found a few Canadians in my rolls myself!
I would try out halves more often but what seems like a good number is $500 plus to have any chance of finding anything so...We'll see.

I've had the best luck with dimes (although that's actually not saying much). I haven't done halves in a long, long time ... I suspect the odds might be a little better there, but I'm just not up for the hassle of placing orders with my bank branch.

Stick to dimes. You get more coins for the money handed over, and there is always the chance of getting a silver example.

I've just started buying cases. So for no silver in anything. When I first started buying rolls I got one dime roll with 13 silver dimes.
My experience has been beginners luck...and dimes is the way to go.

Is silver the only thing your after? So far I've done $1100.00 in halves & have found 0 silver; bit over $200 in nickels, no silver but 1 buffalo & a handful or two of older pre 60 nickels; & roughly $250 in pennies, found a bunch of wheats, dimes & copper. The halves are boring to look through as well, If I'm going silver hunting I'll try dimes next & keeping an eye out for 2009's.

I have a different approach. I am just taking all commemorative only coins, all denominations, out of my pocket and throwing them into a bikkie barrel. When that is full I will have about $350 FV to sort through. I will make up two type sets out of them, keep any other intersting coins like errors or such what, and spend the rest.
Repeat the process for the rest of my life. Just a way of keeping myself interested. Actually, my first love is ancients!

For the amount you're sorting dimes will probably be you're best bet. You have a good percent going. I could search over $500 and not find one. So often I stopped dime searching.

It USED to be dimes. I've been on another forum since 2007 and they used to laugh because I searched dimes. Well, I've found more than a thousand in that time. Used to be they thought you crazy for searching dimes. Nowadays, everyone's crazy.

Had my first dime skunk today ever. $200 and nothing. I know $200 isn't much but, I usually find 1 or 2 per $150 to $200 worth but, I figured reality would catch up sooner or later. I think I may do a box next time... Dime boxes are $500 right? or $400?

I thinlk dime boxes are 250. It's nice to hear that others are still doing ok. I didn't get one silver from a case of quarters or dimes. Anyone have any tips on getting better odds? Ie asking for a specific type of case or asking for just rolled coins before they are put in a case?

1100 in halves and no silver? That seems hard to believe, no kennedy 40% silver? My bank lets me look though theirs, after less than 200$ I found 10! Another bank gave me 3 out of like 30 bucks. Thats all I have so far.... maybe beginners luck?

Quote: Anyone have any tips on getting better odds? Ie asking for a specific type of case or asking for just rolled coins before they are put in a case? Quite simple, actually. The key to successful coin roll hunting is volume. I was lazy last year, searching only $30,000 in boxed and loose coin.
