Looks like a bad copy to me. Do you have a magnet?

(thanks for the welcome reminder amida17)

............... amida17 I type too slow
ouch spacing way off
dobby1985 you are correct about the edge
oih82w8 good place to start!

Some brass is slightly magnetic, some alloys of brass are not magnetic, ! Next try weight.
Your coin looks too far off to be one of the super alloys.

Yep, although I have quite a few "copies" that are not magnetic.

Diamagnetic - won't be attracted to a magnet
Paramagnetic - slight attraction
Ferromagnetic - strong attraction

No need for a scale or magnet. It's an obvious, and very poor, counterfeit.

There's a nice website on counterfeit draped bust dollars that includes this very culprit. Am I allowed to give the URL, though, or is that frowned upon?

Feel free. There is a list of automatically-blocked websites - they're there because they have abused either CCF specifically or numismatics in general. If this happens to be one of them, no harm, no foul. Could have happened a while ago and you'd never know, but a website only spams us once.

Unfortunately, the coin is not real.
