The second hook that got my interest was this coin below. I was wondering what it might grade out to be.

Thanks,

I'd say AU-50+. A bit of ware on the shield and the horizontal lines. a beautiful coin!

Lots of wear on that eagle, toes, right leg and shield. Still a great coin and appears to be a decent AU-50.

AU50 or 53 in my opinion.

Thanks everyone. I'm a sucker for this design, myself. Its interesting to hear what people look at when deciding wear....

Thanks again.

The "high points" of the design develop wear first as the coin circulates. On the SLQ these points include the shield, Miss Liberty's right leg and knee, toes of the right foot, eagle's breast feathers, and the leading edge of the eagle's right wing. Your coin shows slight to moderate wear (i.e., loss of detail and/or discoloration) in all these areas. I agree with a grade of AU-50. The head also appears to qualify for "full head" (FH) status.

On the 1916-1924 coins the date also wears down quickly. Your coin shows a bit of wear at the top of the 9. The second 1 is curiously weak but I suspect that is a strike anomaly, possibly caused by the die being partially clogged.
