I think it's a capped die error, could be a Grease Filled Die. Will wait for a pro to answer. Nice find. John1

I believe all the dies were produced in Philly until 1995 when the Denver die shop was opened.

I was looking at the reverse of the coin and noticed what looks like an "N" on the stairs. I have circled this in the pic. Is that normal?

The "N" on the reverse looks like PMD. The mint mark looks like a D so the coin was minted at Denver and the dies were made at Philly. John1
