Wasn't sure if I should post this under auctions nevertheless here it is.

How much grading will add to the value on top of Krause catalog value or online price guide values ?

An example would be This 1866A NGC XF PRUSSIA VICTORY GERMANY TALER listed on ebay for $110

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1866A-NGC-X...em58927a7356

This is listed for $35 for XF in NGC price guide,

http://www.ngccoin.com/poplookup/Wo...mSearch=true

Does grading addes $70+ to a coin which has some scratches as well ?

The details grade hurts the value. This is an 1866A with a value of maybe $20. Maybe the seller has it confused with the 1866B which would be closer in price to what he is asking.

The most important thing for value isn't that its graded but what it grades. If it does well it can significantly add to the value and make it easy to sell, or it can come back saying it was cleaned or a way lower grade than you thought. The grading its self adds a minimal value if that and with newer coins often times anything less than perfect makes them sell cheaper that buying a new raw one.

Just don't forget that the price an individual seller chooses to list on ebay might bear no resemblance whatsoever to the actual worth of the coin. This is such a case.

However, if I did resort to buying a coin on ebay then I would give a higher preference to a seller with a graded & slab coin than a stand-alone, unverified piece.

I buy from ebay a lot but wont buy anything over 50 dollars ungraded on there. Even if you want it raw better to break it out and have more confidence then play the guessing game with all the fakes out there

I keep an archive of all ebay sold German coins.n this coin the price it's outstanding. The ms63 sold for 130$.This is an easy to found coin.It was minted to celebrate the Prussian-Austrian war. Many were kept by their owners as souvenir. So the price it's low than other Prussian thalers of the same age.

True, counterfeits are too prevalent and many legitimate ebay auctions are overpriced too.

I have two coin dealers near me that I have to visit soon. Maybe some good finds.
