I recently bought a bag of coins and this is one of the few that I cannot identify.

I found a similar coin with the same exact obverse at this website, the reverse being different (scroll down): http://www.novanumismatics.com/arti...matics50.php

The obverse shows the liberty bell with a bird (possibly the bald eagle), with the word "Centennial" on the top and "1776-1876" on the bottom.

The reverse has a bunch of long words in a curved fashion. Many of the words have letters which are legible, but there are enough hard to read letters that I cannot make out the full words. This may be a moot point due to the fact that I don't think any of the words are actual words.

Along the very top of the reverse, it looks like it says to the best of my ability: "PIC=NICK (or rick) & SUM AERNACNESFEST"

Along the very bottom of the reverse it looks like it says to the best of my ability: "AD. 25 CES"

The reverse also has the date: "1876" on it

Can anybody identify this coin?

Thanks,

Scott

Hi Toocool -

Glad the website was able to help you out a bit.

The die that's on your specimen, as well as the Jacob Reich specimen, is a stock Centennial die. It is a Rulau-B, found on page 577 in Rulau's 4th edition.

As many tokens were emitted using stock Centennial dies, we can most probably narrow your specimen down to that date/era.

*** UPDATE ***

You have a Rulau NY-NY-251A, white metal, 26mm, 1876

You can find this on page 755 of Rulau's 4th edition

"PIC-NICK & SOMMERNACHTSFEST"

Obverse: "PIC-NICK & SOMMERNACHTSFEST / ABGEHALTEN VON / UNION SAENGERBUND. PH. / ZU EHREN DES / MARSCHNER / MAENNERCHOR N.Y. / MONTAG / 14 AUG. 1876 / AUF / RESISTLE'S SAENGERPARK / AD. 25CTS."

Reverse: Liberty Bell

Wow, that's amazing. Thank You!

Does the book give a value for the coin? What would that one be worth in that poor condition?

It doesn't provide a value for a specimen in your grade. At Extra Fine, it is valued at $40.

However, your specimen is G-4 Details, at best.

Unfortunately your specimen isn't worth much. In my opinion, a dollar or less.
