i work at a Canoe/Kayak lessons, sales and rental shop, and I went in to help the owner cut down a tree, I found this in the tree bark....

building was built in 1897, "free port bridge" here in Cambridge Ontario, old building, old tree

From the looks of the coin (wear) it had a few miles on it before it took shelter in that tree.
