Hi everyone I won this last night but I am not sure what to do with it other than sell it with my other silver :dunno I saw the coin a few days ago put a reasonable bid on it, and as I usually do, forgot all about it. I would really like to get some comments on this type of grade, I mean it is still 90% silver. Please let m know what you think. Does it have more value in the slab or does it matter? All the best Alan

looks like a fake slab to me. Don't think PCGS would just label a coin "Gem Brilliant Uncirculated" Also, could be the slab, but it doesn't look Gem to me either. I'd just throw it on the silver pile.

I dont think it is a fake slab. I believe for mass submitions PCGS will holder coins with this type of wording. I've seen it on dozens of ASE's. Whatever the case may be the coin is worth melt.

Looks fake and whoever did it thought by adding PCGS' parent company's copyright on the back would legitimize it was wrong. Typically each coin PCGS slabs has a specific grade and a serial number on the front. On the back they don't have any printing at all, just the hologram. So this one with Copyright 2009 Collectors Universe, Inc. is unusual. Here's a link to the Collectors Universe website http://www.collectors.com/ Collectors Universe is a company which owns several third party grading services for coins (PCGS), stamps, Trading cards and tickets, autographs and memorabilia, the Certified Coin Exchange and Expos Unlimited are also owned by Collectors Universe. ... Why in the heck would somebody ever attempt to fake-slab a bullion coin with no grade? Sounds pretty foolish to me. This is probably a bulk submission that was used as a promo or something... Kind of like an advertisement piece or something that was given to every attendee at a meeting or seminar of some sort. They certainly do slab coins as BU without MS grades, and there would be no point to assign a coin like this a barcode or population report. I'm almost positive it is real, if it is fake though, the person who made it will most likely win a Darwin Award sooner or later, cause that's the stupidest reason for a fake slab I have ever seen.

Gyrene are you saying that Collector Universe owns PCGS? Because if they do own PCGS then it's not a fake, or is the label still a fake because the barcode and grade is missing?
I'm confused. Is the concensus that it is a fake or what?
In any event if the OP won it and no money changed hands then there is still the value of the coin which is something of a plus.
To me the slab does look suspicious because of the missing grade, and if it was up for sale I would pass unless the price was approaching melt and then I'd crack it out of there to avoid any hassle when I did decide to sell the coin.

I see no reason to think this is a fake slab, it is a 1964 Kennedy after all. Most likely explanation is that this slab was a promotional item, possibly a giveaway for PCGS Collectors Club members. GreatCollections auctioned one of these slabs in May- http://www.greatcollections.com/Coi...triped-Label

I love the term Gem BU Gee, hey guess what, I have this half dollar that is MS-67/68/69 or 63/64 Pretty nice huh ? Better yet, how about a Perfect Gem Choice BU Unc. That covers everything from MS60 through 70

acan451, I suggest you contact PCGS and ask if it's a genuine slab.
However, please do let us know.

Ok...so I was in the "Boy that slab looks fake" group...no bar code, no serial number...looks fake but...it is valid. I found a few more just like it. It seems if there is no grade assigned then no code or serial number Here's one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...p=true&rt=nc

Thanks everyone for all the interesting comments,I sent the picture to a friend at PCGS the slab is real. I bought it for the silver content and that is all, I will crack it as soon as I get it. I got it for a dollar over spot last week so that's good for me. All the best Alan

If you are not building rolls of 64 Kennedys, why not just leave it in the slab? You might get a bit more for it from a collector when you sell down the road.
