Finally Got An 1846 Medium Date Large Cent

Picked one up on ebay. Paid a bit more than I really wanted to, but it's been a frustrating search. It's nice as long a you don't look at the back.

I think this variety is not as common as the RedBook pricing would lead you to believe. From my experience, about 80% of all 1846s are small date, about 15% are tall date, and 5% are medium date. This variety should command a higher price than the tall date, but it doesn't.

I agree, this one is tougher than pricing would lead you to believe. Very nice details and the gouge....character!

Yeah, the ding on the reverse is older than it looks. It is a tough date with the variety.
