So as I understand it, there are 4 varieties of 1934 cents:
Small date- N-1, N-2 Small stars- N-3, N-4 Large date and stars, medium letters, N-5 Large date, stars, and letters, N-6, N-7
In the Dansco album, there's a hole labeled small 8 and stars medium letters. Well this doesn't exist. Do they mean large 8 and stars medium letters?
Also, there's 5 1834 holes. Guess I just fill that with whatever I want? Maybe I'll put my N-7 in there! Is it just me, or does it seem like they set up this album completely randomly. There's runs of dates that have varieties that only have one hole, then for others, they go variety crazy.

These album companies are far from perfect. I've caught some typos in some of the varieties out there, the older Whitman Capped Bust album I have has a couple in itself.

IIRC one "famous" such error is with 1839 cents: they have holes for Head of 1838, Silly Head, Booby Head, Head of 1840, and a "regular 1839" hole. The problem is, of course, that the only variety not covered by the other four holes is the overdate aka "head of 1836" which is 1) relatively uncommon even compared to the other four and 2) about the farthest from just "1839" as there could be without not actually being an 1839. Then again, I've never ever seen that album, so should't say anything about it and at least you aren't getting Dansco albums with holes for 1913 Liberty nickels (though you are getting them with holes for 1896-S dimes, I believe, which is only slightly less frivolous).

ONE of the many reasons I use the Whitman year only Large Cent Album. With that I just don't care about all those little differences. For my Album, it's like most socks. One size fits all.

I went with a Littleton so that all I had to do was a date set. Didn't want to mess with all those varieties. Now I here about all the errors in the album and glad I went the way I did.

I echo all the frustrations outlined above. My DANSCO resides empty in the closet in favor of the Whitman Classic.

If my handwriting were better I'd get a blank album.
So does anyone know about the small 8 and stars ML slot. Should that really be labeled large 8 and stars, ML?

According to the Red Book you would be correct. Guess the 5th hole is do as thou wilt. You guys have me questioning using the Dansco for this series. I went back and forth between this and the Whitman Classic. But I wanted more than just a year set...

There's some things about the year set that you can't get around like having only one hole for 1796. The whitman book has no extra holes.

Quote: Maybe I'll put my N-7 in there! If you have a 34 N-7 I really don't think it matters what you put in the other holes.
